Palm Sunday
Our apologies for the echo in the sound this week as we go through the growing pains of adjusting to the use of two cameras for our service to improve the viewing experience. Audio has been more or a challenge than we expected, but we should have it resolved before our next livestream.
You can share the Passion Narrative from today's Service, free of audio trouble, by clicking here.
It’s the Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week! This Sunday has the theme throughout of Jesus’ being our King and Saviour, whose crown is of thorns and whose throne is a cross, and who saves us (“hosanna” literally means “save”) by pouring out his life for us in love. We’re beginning the Service with the blessing of Palm Crosses, and then participating in a Procession around the Sanctuary, in imitation of the Procession that took place when Jesus entered Jerusalem on this day. Following the Procession, our Virtual Choir is singing the Palm Sunday Anthem, “Ride on, King Jesus.” Then we share in the dramatic reading of the Passion Narrative in the Gospel according St. Mark, with 7 recorded parts on our Screens, and the part of the “people” being read by the Congregation (in-person and online). We’re blessed to Norman with us to lead us in a Reflection, and Betty to assist with the Liturgy. Keith or Gloria are giving the Reading from Holy Scripture during the Procession. Paul is accompanying our Opening Hymn, “All Glory, Laud, and Honour,” in-person for the first time in over 2 years! Our Virtual Choir is leading us in our other 5 congregational Hymns, and our Offertory Instrumental is the Palm Sunday Hymn, “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna, played on an organ that’s not in Swansea, Wales! For our Prayers of the People, John L. is on audio, leading us in a Palm Sunday Litany. This Litany especially remembers Ukraine in several places. After this, we give heed to Jesus’ words, “Do this for the remembrance of me,” receiving within us the life of the laid down his life in love for us and feeding on him in our hearts by faith with thanksgiving, as we share Communion physically or spiritually together. Last, our Liturgy ends, and the service begins, with a “Sending” forth to help spread the love of the Lord throughout our COVID-challenged , war-weary world, in word and in deed.
