It’s Thanksgiving weekend, and we pause throughout the land to give thanks with a grateful heart for the harvest safely gathered in, and all God’s good gifts to us. At St. Paul’s, Sunday morning Worship is always a “thanksgiving” Service (the word “Eucharist,” after all, means “thanksgiving”), but the Thanksgiving Sunday Service is always one of the most special in the year.
Look for special decorations; special Readings from Holy Scripture, including videos of John M. giving the First and Second Lesson; special music, including Hymns led by our Virtual Choir; a Hymn led by the Virtual Choir of St. Anne's Steveston Anglican Church, in Richmond, BC; and a Postlude Hymn on the grand organ of All Saints’ Church in Oystermouth, Swansea, Wales. We have a special Children’s Time Song; and special Prayers led by John L., including a Thanksgiving Litany and a Thanksgiving Prayer from the New Agapē worship resources for healing and reconciliation provided by the National Church. Also look for us to, for the 15th year in a row, take time in the Service to pause and list on a piece of paper all that for which we’re thankful. And as part of our grateful response to God’s goodness to us, look for a special Video entitled “Letter of Thanks, and a special offering of the food donated this past week for the Food Bank. When our Liturgy ends, the service begins: as we go in peace to love and serve the Lord, rejoicing in the power of the Spirit, and by the power of the Spirit, bearing witness from overflowing thankful hearts to Jesus and his way of love to our broken world in all we say and do.
