Today is the Second Sunday of Easter, in which we focus on the Apostle St. Thomas, and the presence and value of doubt in our journey of discipleship. We’re starting our Service off in a spectacular way with the Episcopal Virtual Choir and Orchestra (Combining nearly 800 submissions from more than 600 participants all around the world) leading us in singing our Opening Hymn. Our Choir is leading us in our Gradual and Closing Hymns, and Paul is playing the Offertory Instrumental Hymn. Norman is officiating and preaching. Doreen is on tape to share a Children’s Time Talk with our younger members (with a message all ages will find encouraging). Dan is on tape sharing the First Reading. Following the Sermon, we have the opportunity of affirming our faith by participating in the Renewal of our Baptismal Vows, as we usually do each Second Sunday of Easter. Following this, Stacy is on tape leading us in the Prayers of the People – a special Litany for Easter 2 from the Church of Scotland, and a Prayer in Response to COVID-19 adapted from the Methodist Church of Great Britain (courtesy of Dinah). Our Service then continues with Communion, in which we feed on Jesus in our hearts by faith with thanksgiving. There’s the opportunity to partake again not just spiritually, but also physically, using Reserved Sacrament from the previous Sunday’s Service. This Reserved Sacrament is available for pick up just inside the main doors on Saturdays from 2 to 2:45, and other times by appointment. The wafers are in individual paper cups, and placed in a sealed baggie, to ensure their safety. After Communion, as our Liturgy ends, the service begins: we go in peace to love and serve the Lord, sharing the joyous Good News of Easter in all we say and do.
